ROBERT DOUGALL

1913 - 1999

Robert Dougall joined the BBC in the accounts department before transferring to radio in 1934 becoming an announcer on the BBC Empire Service, now known as the BBC World Service. He served as a radio war reporter and was the person who announced to the nation that the United Kingdom was at war and would later serve in the Royal Navy. After the war he returned to radio and later television news reading which he would do untill 1973, he had become the first person to read the Nine O'Clock news three years previous.
