Welcome to our section about breakfast television on ITV over the years. Breakfast Television started on ITV on the 1st February 1983 by a company called TV-am, this was a couple fo weeks behind the BBC launching their Breakfast Time programme.
The breakfast television service was a seperate ITV franchise where a seperate company would provide this nationwide service. Initially this was TV-am however they would loose out in the 1990 franchise awards wih GMTV taking over the franchise in 1992. By 2009 GMTV was part of ITV wih ITV PLC acquiring the 25% they did not already own at this point and since then the franchise has been operated by ITV Breakfast Television. GMTV was replaced in 2010 by a new service called Daybreak which was itself replaced by Good Morning Britain in 2014.
