Clarence was a sitcom written by Bob Ferris, a pseudenym of the star Ronnie Barker and a nod to the creators of Porridge (Bob Ferris being a charactor in The Likely Lads which was by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais). The show was a follow on from a pilot episode shown by LWT titled "The Removal Man" as part of the "Six Dates With Barker" series. The show's main charactor was a removals man called Clarance who had very poor vision which was less than ideal. He would fall for a maid called Jane Travers and they would move in together in a cottage

The show is set at the time of King George's coronation in 1937,
