It Ain't Half Hot Mum was a comedy by David Croft and Jimmy Perry about the Royal Artilllery concert troup who were performing for troups at the end of the second world war. The show folowed the scraps they go into and the performances they undertook. The group was lead by warrent officer Battery Seargent Major Williams, a Welsh man who was the only real soldier, he was focused on getting his troup into battle rather than performing.

It is a comedy which has been criticised because of a number of a number of different things. One factor was that Michael Bates was blacked up playing an Indian in the show, there had been other critisms over accusations of racism and imperialism.
