Open All Hours was a situation comedy by Roy Clarke, it started off as an episode of a programme called 7 of 1 which was a series of seven individual comedies staring Ronnie Barker. Out of the 7 two were made into full series. Those were the episode Prisioner and Escort (which became Porridge) and Open All Hours

Open All Hours was set in a general store and featured Ronnie Barker playing shopkeeper Arkwright and David Jason playing his long suffering nephew Granvillle. Arkwright was all about his shop and gave Granville no peace, neither did he give the customers any talking them into buying things they did not want. Arkwright had a stutter which appeared especially when something was stressing him out. When his mind was not on the shop it was how he could be romantically involved with nurse Gladys Emmanuel.
