You Rang M'Lord? was a comedy set in the 1920s about an upper class family and their servants. Written by David Croft and Jimmy Perry, it stared many of their favourites from other series such as Hi-De-Hi (Paul Shane / Jeffrey Holland / Su Pollard), It Ain't Half Hot Mum (Donald Hewlett / Michael Knowles) and even Bill Pertwee who had been in Dad's Army.

The show centred around mostly the servants especially the antics of rogue butler Alf Stokes, his simple daughter Ivy and the strait laced footman James Twelvetrees. The uper-class family were the Meldrums and they were often into things they shouldn't be particulary Teddy who had fallen for the maid Ivy and was often trying to advance on her.
