Regional ITV

Welcome to our section about the ITV regions and the companies that have served them over the yeards

In modern times the regional structure of ITV is largely non existant, it is ITV in England and Wales, UTV in Northern Ireland (which is owned by ITV) and STV in Scotland. This was not always the case however

ITV was set up to be a regional system of companies, each would make programmes to be shown in that region and some would make programmes which would be shown in other regions and across the network as a whole. The ITV companies would hold the franchise for a set period of time and when it got close to the end of the franchise period the companies would have to reapply and ague their case against any other interested groups to retain that region. This system started to change in the 1990s when the rules on ownership changed allowing ITV companies to start purchasing other ITV companies, over time this lead to the loss of the regional nature of ITV with the formation of ITV PLC

To make our Regional ITV area easier to navigate we have split it into sections based on the region, to select one just click on it's picture below

We are currently still building our site and have a lot more content to come, this does mean however some sections are not yet ready and we aim to have these up and running as soon as we are able
